Active Art in the Park This event is sold out, but please click here to join the wait list; drop ins will also be accepted based on space, but will not receive gift bags.

Date: Sunday, June 24th

Time: 10 AM

Location: Astoria Park, to the East of the parking lot and left of the field house by the track

Do you have a child who is always on the move? Would you like to do creative activities together, but don’t think he or she can sit still long enough? As a mother of such a child, I feel your pain and have developed this class so we can get outdoors and make art through movement and sensory experiences (warning: it’s going to get messy!). Bring your lunch to have a picnic in the park afterwards. Rain date will be Sunday, July31st. Be sure to bring a change of clothes and dress your child (and potentially yourself) in clothes that can get dirty. I use very washable, non-toxic paint, but may make a batch of edible paint if children who put everything in their mouths attend, and those paints will stain. This is a donations-based class – suggested donation is $10 to cover expenses and transportation, but give what works for you!

About the organizer: My name is Megan Stotts. I'm a digital education strategist by day, passionate crafter by night, mother to a very active, very creative and imaginative 2-year-old all the time. I've taught students ages 7 years old to 70. I hold an MA from Teacher's College at Columbia University in Teaching English as a Second Language with a focus on curriculum and instructional design, and a minor in Painting from Ohio University. I love crafting with my child, and have found simple, age-appropriate "crafting hacks" to adapt crafts to children's abilities and interests. I also enjoy finding the teachable moments in the craft process, and sharing it with parents and their children. If you aren't artsy, don't worry about it - it's all about the process, not the product!
